Aaron's Beard Care
Hypericum calycinum
An extremely hardy ground cover shrub with large yellow flowers that spreads rapidly by underground roots (stolons). It loves sun and drought, but because it can be aggressive in the garden, its boundary must be kept under control.
Monthly care calendar
Timings are for a temperate Northern Hemisphere climate. In warmer areas tasks start earlier, in colder areas later; in the Southern Hemisphere shift them by six months.
- Watering: Not required, natural rainfall is sufficient.
- General care: To control its spread, you can physically limit it by digging around its edges.
- Pests & diseases: Carry out general observation. Frost protection is not needed; it is very hardy.
- Pruning: Before new growth begins, clear the whole area by mowing/cutting it with a lawn mower (on the highest setting) or a scythe at a height of 5-10 cm above the ground. This rejuvenates the plant and ensures abundant flowering.
- General care: Clear weeds.

- Fertilizing: Not required, it tolerates poor soils; do not overfeed.

- General care: New shoots emerge quickly from the soil and cover the area.
- Watering: If there is no rainfall, water every 15 days.
- Watering: If there is no rainfall, water once a week.

- Watering: Water deeply twice a week; prefer infrequent and generous watering over small and frequent. Water around the roots to a depth of 15-20 cm.
