White Stonecrop Care
Sedum album
An evergreen succulent ground cover that likes full sun and well-drained, poor soil and is extremely drought tolerant. It is ideal for rock gardens, green roofs and dry areas; its care consists of simply planting it in the right place and leaving it alone.
Monthly care calendar
Timings are for a temperate Northern Hemisphere climate. In warmer areas tasks start earlier, in colder areas later; in the Southern Hemisphere shift them by six months.
- General care: The leaves may take on a reddish color from cold stress; this is normal.
- Pests & diseases: Root rot is the only risk; make sure the soil is free-draining.
- Pruning: It does not need formative pruning and its top should not be cut. Only remove dry, broken, and diseased branches. It generally does not need pruning. If limiting is required, light cutting can be done during the growing season. The cut pieces root easily.
- General care: Preparation can be made to create new areas.
- Frost risk: Protect newly planted seedlings from severe frosts.
- Watering: Water a newly planted specimen more often than established plants during its first year, as its root system is still shallow.
- General care: Good time for planting and transplanting.

- Pests & diseases: If you see black spots with yellow halos on the leaves (black spot), collect the diseased leaves and remove them from the garden; the disease overwinters in fallen leaves.
